Beverages that Pair with Authentic Japanese Curry Rice

Hello friends,

The beverages that you drink alongside your food are incredibly important in order to have a pleasant dining experience – not only taste-wise, but also for nutritional reasons! What drink would be the best to pair with your Japanese curry rice? I have a couple of recommendations. Allow me to introduce some beverages that will elevate your curry experience.

Calpico

Digestion

To start with, when eating Indian curry, many people may think first of lassi (an Indian yogurt drink). The Japanese counterpart of lassi would likely be Calpico, a probiotic drink made from non-fat milk. Both drinks boast a milky, slightly sour, refreshing taste, and share similar nutritional benefits. While lassi contains lactobacillus bacteria that helps break down foods and absorb nutrients in your body, Calpico contains lactic acid that is produced by the same lactobacillus bacteria. So if you think that Go! Go! Curry!’s katsu curry dishes might be an unusual item for your body to digest, you might want to choose Calpico to drink with it. It could even help improve your digestive system.

Green Tea

Antioxidants

I also recommend drinking green tea with your Japanese curry rice. Green tea’s clean and bitter taste works as a palate cleanser while you eat curry, and it’s also rich in nutrients. Japanese green tea is an unoxidized tea, so it contains a tremendous amount of health benefits that are not lost in the oxidization process, as compared to other oxidized teas such as black tea and oolong tea. The most notable benefit of green tea is an antioxidant effect. Go! Go! Curry! currently carries bottled green tea, so you can reap these benefits next time you order.

New Drink Horizons

Genki!

We are also developing a new drink in collaboration with a company in Brooklyn. It’s a cucumber sparkling drink called “Genki Drink”. Carbonation, plus cucumber’s refreshing flavor, can cleanse your palate as well while eating curry; it’s a perfect summer drink that brings genki.

All the drinks mentioned here (except our drink in development) can be ordered online now. Speaking of online service, you may be interested to know that we have freshly reestablished and expanded our systems and delivery areas during this pandemic. I’d like to talk about our efforts and the changes we’ve enacted some other time, but I just want to let you know that now you can buy other Japanese food and grocery items like snacks, cup noodles, and ice cream from us.

Next time, I’d like to talk about another important sidekick of Japanese curry: relishes, condiments, and toppings. Until then, get hydrated and stay genki!
